The native APIs put heavy limitations on what you could do with a native context menu and it was just not compatible with the expectations of people building against the rendering engine at the time. There was some discussion of switching back and forth between native and non-native menus based on styling, but that got complicated quickly and it wasn't thought to be worthwhile. It sounds like perceived needs have changed, and maybe the native APIs allow for bit more flexibility now. People expected to be able to change colors and layout with CSS, for example.
Mozilla ' Update In JulyContainers (this a huge one for me). Sorry for the rant.I love Safari’s performance but I use Firefox over it for 3 primary reasons: I mean hell this is the company that survived Windows ME and Vista so they know they can make mistakes. It frustrates me to no end. It's not like they go bankrupt doing that- Apple does it all the time (getting rid of 32 bit apps, getting rid of Intel based apps) and is doing fine. They're stuck in the hell they created themselves and every year Windows is going to get more and more and more outdated and it's going to get harder to catch up.I don't understand why they just won't make a bold move and just start from scratch. Realtime landscaping plus 2012 for macFirefox’s can talk directly to the server (no standalone app needed). Safari’s extension requires the app be installed. The first is Bitwarden which I love for the function it provides but am in principle not a fan of the framework it’s built on for desktop use and seek to minimize if not eliminate the need to run instances of it on my Mac. Extension flexibility, and this impacts my two most-used extensions in particular. I’m a Linux user alongside Mac and Firefox allows me to minimize fragmentation of my history, bookmarks, tabs, etc not to mention the consistent UX. There is no such extension for Safari and I have no choice to but to run a standalone app which blankets my entire machine to secure Safari’s traffic.
